Handling system for crankshafts
Challenge
In addition to optimized media routing, the challenge for the system consisted in mastering the big length differences of the individual shaft types and approaching various positions. The flange side was taken as the reference point for all lengths. Another difficulty was that the shafts still had to be turned by 90°.
Solution
The Zimmer Group experts designed a 2-step closing stroke for small and large workpiece lengths. A dominant force stroke provided for a uniform reference point. Furthermore, a pneumatic swivel unit with rotary distributor was used and allowed the gripper position to be secured by means of clamping.
